Simone & Ajax news! New Project news!

Hi, everyone! The end is in sight! I'm finally getting towards the end of the Simone & Ajax book. I truly appreciate your patience on getting this done through the various health and other problems. I also loved meeting some of you at the recent Baltimore Comic-Con and your kind words about the book. And now that it was seen in the Baltimore Yearbook I can now show you the full image for the page I did for that, which will also be included in your Simone & Ajax book:
I'll also be at Chicago's C2E2 Comic-Con December 10-12. Please stop by and say HI!
As my work on Simone & Ajax wraps up I'm happy to announce my project for the first part of next year: A graphic novel adaptation of George MacDonald's highly-influencial, Victorian fantasy novel, "Phantastes," adapted by Meredith Finch, with art on chapters 1-3 by Christine Norrie and on chapters 4-6 by me. Its Kickstarter campaign is live right now, so I hope you'll check it out. You can get it in digital, softcover, or hardcover or get a page of original art by me. The art doesn't automatically come with a book, so please, if you also want a book, choose whatever book format you prefer as an add-on in checkout. Thanks! Phantastes —a graphic novel by Cave Pictures Publishing — Kickstarter
I'll be back soon with more news and previews of Simone & Ajax! Thanks for your support!

New Project and Convention News

Hi, Everyone! In my recent update I mentioned that while working hard on Simone & Ajax I was taking a little time to do a some work on two freelance projects I could not turn down. Now I can tell you about one of them! I am proud to announce the Kickstarter launch of a project that I am involved with: The Masters!
I'm working with author Austin Hough on his original comic book called The Masters, and his villains are all inspired by famous artists of the 20th Century.
Austin has assembled a literal who's who of '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s artists and creators working on interior pages and covers, of which I am inking a number of interior pages and covers penciled by comic book legends Joe Staton (my longtime collaborator on Scooby Doo), Mike Gustovich (my teacher from many years ago, without whom I might not have had the career I've had), Alan Weiss (a friend of many years who I have only gotten to work with once before), and the legendary Ramona Fradon (who I've known and been hoping to work with for decades)! You can see a couple examples below.
or either of the images to see all the fun things that Power Comics is doing and to support my contributions to The Masters!
Also, in a recent update I mentioned I would be at the Grand Rapids Comic-Con in November. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it while trying to get Simone & Ajax and these two other projects done. Mark Hodges and the crew there have been very understanding, and we've already rescheduled me for their show in November of next year. I'll still be at Baltimore Comic-Con in two weeks and C2E2 in Chicago in December.
Back to work here on Simone & Ajax and more! Thanks for your patience and support!

As I've mentioned before, I love supporting other Kickstarters, and right now there are a bunch of them I'm backing that you could back, too, if they grab you:
I buy more comics off Kickstarter than any other way these days. I hope you'll all check them out! Now back to work on Simone & Ajax!

Fall-ing into Comics and Comic-Cons!

I hope you all had a great summer. I can't believe it's already flown by and it's fall! I've been busy here making the comics, though delayed by surgery to help my eye a couple weeks ago and other issues, and I'm still working hard on the Simone & Ajax book. It's still available to pre-order on Indiegogo at https://bit.ly/simoneandajaxgogo, so please share this link with your friends. Here's a little sneak-peek at something that will be in the book.
As I mentioned in the last update, plague and safety permitting, I will be at several conventions this fall, my first cons since early last year. I've had to make the hard decision to not go to New York Comic-Con, but please come see me at the Baltimore Comic-Con (October 22-24), and make sure to pick up a copy of the BCC yearbook for a special Simone & Ajax piece by me, Grand Rapids (Michigan) Comic-Con (November 12-14), and C2E2 in Chicago (December 10-12). I'd love to meet some of you and tell you more about Simone & Ajax, show you original art, and more.
Yours in Adventure!

Summer with Simone & Ajax!
– Thu, Aug 26, 2021 at 03:59:28 PM
Hi, everyone!
I hope the summer has been good to you all! I've spent it having a little fun while also working hard on Simone & Ajax. I recently heard from one of you that they'd: "Been loving the Simone [& Ajax] updates you've been sharing! I'm sure the other backers are like me and happy to wait as long as it takes you. With the love and care you're putting into it, it's worth the wait!" I hope the rest of you feel that way, despite the delays, because this new book is really is something I'm very proud of. The previous Simone & Ajax book was my favorite thing I'd ever done, the comic I was most proud of in all my 30 years in comics. I feel that this new book will be the equal of... if not better than... that one.
The past 18 months have taken a toll on us all, and I've been reminded that I'm not as young as I used to be and how hard the pandemic blues hit me. I'm so grateful that all of you have been patient with me as the pandemic, health issues, and life have caused delays. But every day the book progresses.
While I had been turning down all new offers of freelance work since the campaign began, I have taken a bit of time to work on two exciting projects that I simply couldn't turn down. The first is inking two sections of an upcoming superhero comic book, one penciled by the legendary Alan Weiss and the other penciled by Mike Gustovich. Alan and I have been friends for nearly 30 years, and I'm honored he asked me to ink this. Mike taught a 12-year-old me the basics of inking 40 years ago this summer and propelled me into what I do today. I couldn't turn down the chance to work with either of them! My other project is still in process, but I'm thrilled to be doing artwork for a musician I've loved and listened to since I was 14! I will tell you more about these projects as soon as I'm allowed to.
As you know, I love to support other artists, so you should know that Gisele Lagace and Dave Lumsdon have another great comics campaign going right now and it's so close to being funded. I'm a huge fan of theirs and always back their projects. I hope you'll check out their campaign! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixietrixcomix/pixie-trix-comix-volume-2-and-more?
Lastly, plague and safety permitting, I will be at several conventions this fall, my first cons since early last year. Please come see me at the New York Comic-Con (October 7-10), Baltimore Comic-Con (October 22-24), Grand Rapids (Michigan) Comic-Con (November 12-14), and C2E2 in Chicago (December 10-12). I'd love to meet some of you and tell you more about Simone & Ajax, show you original art, and more.
